Course Descriptions


 

• Introduction to the Bible
A study of the basic literary features, historical background, and major themes of the Bible.

• Bible Doctrine Survey
This class treats the major Christian teachings concerning God, Jesus the Christ, the Bible, the Church, Faith, Repentance, Baptism, The Lord’s Supper, the Christian Life and Eschatology.

• Spiritual Formation
The mission of the church to “present everyone perfect in Christ” (Col. 1:28) is the focus of this class. Includes development of personal study habits, prayer and fasting and other spiritual disciplines.

• Principles of Christian Teaching
Lectures and discussions will focus on learning how to interpret Scripture correctly and how to apply Scripture effectively to human needs. The class highlights skills of teaching prevalent in Jesus’ teaching methodology, as well as contemporary teaching methods.

• Christian Leadership Development
This class examines principles for developing leadership – both one’s own leadership and that of potential leaders within the congregation.

• Christian Apologetics
The importance of the study of apologetics is found in the words of the Apostle Peter who encourages Christians to “be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have” (1 Peter 3:15). Learn how to give an effective account of what you believe and why.

• The Church in the Bible and in History
The church that exists today is a product of almost twenty centuries of historical conditioning. Leader who serve in the church today will benefit from a greater awareness of the development of the church in history. Special attention will be given to the Protestant Reformation along with our Restoration Movement heritage.

• Life of Christ
An overview of the life of Christ in the four Gospels.

• Practical Ministry Seminars
Quarterly two-day seminars on themes such as preaching and teaching, youth ministry, ministry to children, leadership development and evangelism. Students must attend no fewer than four of the eight seminars over two years.
